IExplorer issues.

I have both a Dimension 4400 and a Inspiron 5150 wirelessly networked and setup via an ad hoc network.  Originally, the Cable modem ran into the desktop along with the printer and my laptop accessed the internet and used the printer through my desktop just fine.  Well, a couple of weeks ago the power company was doing some work on the neighbor's house and ended up shutting our power off too.  That corrupted my desktops NVRAM (System Memory?), so I had to reset the system by removing the battery from the motherboard so that it would even startup again.  I then decided to upgrade it to XP Pro as well.  In the meantime, I rolled evrything over to my laptop and used that as my primary computer until I got the desktop back up and running.  I now have everything reinstalled on my desktop and my network is partially set up again.  Stress the word partially.  Both computers can share files and the printer, which is still hooked up to the laptop as is the cable modem.  But, I am having problems getting my desktop to access the internet through my laptop.  I've tried ICS to no avail.  Even tried manually setting everything up, also with no luck.  Also, I even tried hooking up my modem directly to the desktop and I got a "limited connection" message under the LAN icon in Network Connections window and I am still unable to access the internet.  Am I missing something?  Any help would be appreciated.  You guys are all great help.

    Try these:
Open Internet Explorer...click Internet Options...click on Advanced and reset button...click on Programs and reset or restore to default..

Also try: Start, Control Panel, Networking...Right click on your network...click Properties...in there you will find REPAIR...click on that.
