modem getting weak? Internet drop off
I am on dial up connection and getting dropped off the internet at different times, 20 min, 10 min, 40 min while I play MultiPlayer games. The idle time was set at 20 min and I have now set the Idle time to "Never" and set the check Email to every 10 min to see if the internet could be kept busy while I play multiPlayer games. I did get a pop up telling me my internet connection would be terminated unless I clicked on the continue mark. This while I was downloading something but never while playing games. None of this has helped as the connection keep getting terminated.
This problem has only started to occure now after three years of failthful service.
It appears to me that the modem has not received my "Never" input and is terminating my connection on the 20 min mark that was preciously set.
My ISP is telling me it could be a telephone line or a modem getting weak and unable to hold a connection with their server
Do modems get weaker with time (3 years). I have a Dell 4500 and the modem is a BCM V.92 voice modem
Could there be another problem. I just now got the pop up on terminating the connection while typing this question, so I think the weak modem is not the answer but my modem not responding to my idle time input of "Never"
