Network card driver problem - Dimension L700cxe
I had to wipe the drive on my Dimension L700cxe and re-install Windows ME. That didn't install the drivers for the NIC so I checked the Resources CD that came with the system. It had 2 drivers on there, one for a 3Com card and one for an Intel card. Neither work.
In Device Manager the NIC shows as unknown. The NIC is a OCI card not integrated. I've looked at the NIC card and there are no markings to tell me what the card ir or who made it. I've looked at the forum and they all talk about installing chipset drivers first. Problem is there are no chipset drivers listed for this system running under ME.
I'm stumped what to do next. Can anyone advise me?

Yes, that's one of them on the resource CD, but it doesn't work.

You may be able to determine what the original card was by going to the Dell Support website, registering, entering your system's Service Tag number, and then selecting "Original System Configuration" under "Select a Tool". Another possibility is to call Dell Support for assistance.

I solved the problem. I believe the network card was faulty. I took it out of the Dimension and put it in a system running XP. The XP system couldn't detect what the card was either. I therefore threw it away and put a new $20 network card in the Dimension. It recognized the new card immediately and installed the correct drivers.

Perhaps it's the CNET Pro200WL Ethernet Adapter. Had you tried that one?
