NIC / Internet Connectivity Problem

Steve Martin once said during a skit on SNL, "I,  for one, am baffled."

Dim 8100, 1.5 GHZ, 768-RDRAM, ATI 9550 Radeon 256MB-DDR (replaced the original NVIDIA 32MB card 6 months ago after purchase of new monitor), Win XP SP2 (All updates current), Linksys cable modem using Roadrunner service, NOD 32 antivirus, Zone Alarm Free version, all chipset drivers on board are current (Intel 850--82801BA//82850, etc.)

Have had the following problem for a month:
Turn on computer, everything boots up, click on Internet Explorer and get the "Unable to Connect..."
So, I click on the "Diagnose Connection Problems" link--
Network Diagnostics For Windows XP window appears--
Click on button to run the program--
After a couple minutes, "Internet Connectivity Restored" and all works fine--download speed is normal, etc.
If I leave the computer on, it never loses connectivity, even if I restart...But if I turn it off, I have to run thru the above procedure to get online.
I have searched thru the forum for a similar scenario and read a few responses stating that maybe there is a problem with the "Integrated Network Adapter..." So, I went to the computer store and bought a Linksys Gigabit Ethernet Adapter; installed software, etc., and diabled the integrated NIC in the BIOS. It appears to work great.
Until I turn on the computer in the morning...

Any help would be appreciated and thanks.
