Page Cannot Be Displayed

About 2 weeks ago my PC began not being able to connect to links. Instead of getting the page I'm looking for I would get Page Cannot Be Displayed. I removed my DSL connections and attempted to reload them which failed and resulted in me calling SBC every day for the past 5 days. First I was told I was having noise on my line for me to switch filters. Then I was told I had a virus. I've ran my virus program and cleaned up space no viruses were found. 2 days ago I found out I had a broken phone line which was repaired yesterday so now I have a dial tone. My wireless connection on the other PC is working but main computer is still not functioning correctly. I keep getting a pop up in my tool bar stating that local area 3 connection cannot be found. Any ideas on what's going on with my PC? I'm hoping that I won't have to delete and reload everything.   :womansad:

Was this ipconfig output run on the problem computer?  It shows that you are connecting through a USB connection and that the ethernet adapter is not connected.   Does the internet work with this connection?  Perhaps I didn't  understand your initial post.   But if we are trying to troubleshoot the ethernet connection, then we need to run the ipconfig command on the problem computer when it is trying to connect the way you want it to connect.  Please explain your setup and then set it up in the same way you would set it up when you have the problem.  Run the ipconfig /all command again.  Then find some way to get the output to a computer with a working internet connection so you can post it here.

To help troubleshoot this problem, on the problem computer, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Well, I still don't understand your set up.  You say that your main computer is the one having the problem, but you also say that it is the one you are on while connected to the forum.  If this is the case, what is the problem?  I'm sorry I'm so dense, but I just can't picture how this is all set up because I have never seen a network that has USB connections to modems or routers.

Anyway if a virus or spyware has caused a computer to have problems connecting to the internet, you might try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here

    Steve,

The main computer (the problem one that I'm on now) has a modem that is plugged into the phone jack. The second computer has a wireless 2 wire that is connect to the internet through a wireless modem that is connected via USB cord. According to the DSL guy if I was having a modem problem then the second computer would not be able to function properly since it's signal is coming from the main computer's modem. That it has to be something wrong with this PC possibly some type of virus.

    Steve,

That is the ipconfig output from the problem computer. I've never had an Ethernet adaptor only a USB one. When I set up my 2Wire 2 years ago they told me that I could connect the computer and the modem via USB plug and then the phone line into the modem. Should I buy an Ethernet plug? All three lights on the modem are lit and the other PC in my house that's connected to this phone line is working fine. Also in addition to pages not available I also cannot connect to yahoo messenger.

I am still confused about your set up.  How can you have two computers connecting to the same dsl modem without a router?  Please explain how this is set up.
