Wireless Problem - L521x

Hi

I am having some wireless issues with my XPS 15 L521x.

The problem: most of the time the laptop does not pick up the network and when it does, I try to connect (by entering router PIN or security phrase) and it goes as far as 'Verifying and Connecting...' before giving up.

I've updated the drivers and BIOS to latest version. WiFi has worked before (a different network).

I don't know what else to try. So any help appreciated.

I can post service tag if need be.

Thanks in advance.

I got this laptop from a friend today and has been reset so nothing is on it except the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.

    YamiPrem,

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

Can you also provide the virus program and firewall you're using.

    YamiPrem,

When you installed the operating system, did you install the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the chipset drivers and follow the list.

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

    Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

    YamiPrem,

Belkin router, correct? Using WPA Security, correct?

Change the security to no security of WEP and see if you can connect. You should be able to connect.

Belkin routers have problems with connecting with WPA Security. They have problems determining the difference between WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal and WPA-AES

    Hi,

    Still no fix. :(

I installed the chipsets just now and installed the wireless drivers again. But I don't think that is the issue since the network does show up (although does not connect or stay available for long). But you know best.

I noticed that every time I have restarted my laptop, the network is shown (but not connecting) for a few minutes but then disappears.

This is frustrating to say the least. :/

    Thanks for trying to help.

    Yes, correct and correct.

I will have to do this tomorrow as I have some tenants using this router too and do not want to disturb them since router restarts after changing anything. It's 11PM here so will try tomorrow.

I'll be going into campus tomorrow too with laptop so can determine if it connects there or not as well.

Thanks for all the help so far.

    Hi again,

Just tried it with no security on router and no win. It still states it 'can't connect with network' after trying to connect. :/

Also, side issue. I just updated to Windows 8.1 now too and my brightness control was not working so downgraded driver and now it works. But the overlay pop-up meter is bugged: http://i.imgur.com/KrS03FX.jpg
The graphic seems to be scaled up by a million because the meter only shows to go down at my two lowest brightness levels. The 'other' meter at top-left screen displays correctly though.

I forgot to add, the wireless did work in campus with the campus network.
