I cannot connect to my main computer. Error message reads Wireless network adaptor not installed or software for the wireless adaptor is not installed. Does this mean that I need a special adaptor card to be fitted in my Dimension 2400 System.
Make sure you have the correct SSID name, encryption keys (if any), and if MAC filtering has been enables, make sure the correct MAC address has been entered.
Not sure you provided enough info the give you much help but, are you sure your wireless card is installed and enabled? You can check by right clicking My Computer, select properties, select hardware and click on the network card listing. Do you see a wireless card listed? If so, is it enabled? Are you using a wireless router for your network? If so, there is nothing you need to add to your main computer. What kind of computer are you trying to connect to your main computer? What kind of wireless card do you have?
Repost with some additional info if none of the above helps.
Thanks for all your efforts but I still can't connect Error now says"Windows- system error" There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network. My router is a Dell 2350 Broadband router and the Notebook I am trying to connect is a Dell Inspiron 6000. When looking into the hardware content on my main computer it says nothing about a wireless card only a broadcom440x network card. Can you help Thanks.
Please look in the Device Manager and see if the card is makred with a Yellow Exclamamtion Mark, or soething is makred that way. Either a ard is not installed period, or it is there and just not installed properly. What type of router do you have?
Your message is not clear; it makes it appear that you have a 2400 connected to a network and are trying to connect to it via wireless with your laptop. But, it can also be read that you have a wireless router that the desktop and the laptop are connected to, and you are trying to send data between the two computers.
The Dimension 2400 is not shipped with a wireless card unless you ordered it from Dell, and I don't remember that being one of the options. If you wish to connect the 2400 to anything via wireless you will need to purchase and install a wireless network adapter.
If you mean that you have both computers already on the network and are attempting to communicate between the two, you need to study file and printer sharing and figure out how to make your firewalls and the Windows sharing mechanism work for you. Unfortunately I don't know enough about that to advise you.
Please try to put a bit more info in your post; it would help the forum help you.

It appears that my Dimension 2400 does not have a wireless card fitted. I have scanned the Dell site but cannot find one. Could you please let me know what I require and also where I can get one. My dimension computer does link with my Inspiron 6000 via a cable and I can connect with the Internet. My Wireless Broadband router is also working correctly.
