Inspiron 1150 laptop with Dell Wireless WLAN 1350 Adapter Rev 4.5, Driver Version 3.40.65.0
Have read the messages on this forum and have turned the WZC(both in the registry and in the services.msc screen + re-start) on but still get the same message.
"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection(I haven't), use that software." The wireless worked fine until I was unable to connect on a hotel connection. Dern thing hasn't worked since.
I just re-checked settings after the restart and found that the WZC shows
stopped again on the System Conf utility -Services and the Services .msc Very frustrating.
Are sure that the Dell Wireless Utility isn't running and just not being displayed in the System Tray? Go to Start > Control Panel, switch to Classic View and then click on either Dell Wireless Utility or Truemobile Cleint Utility. On the Wireless network tabs, make sure that "Let this tool manage your wireless settings" is not checked.
Thanks for the quick response. I have carried out your instructions, unchecked the "let this tool manage your wireless" setting and now get the message, "No wireless networks were found in range.(I don't have wireless at home and I'm home) Then it says "Make sure the
wireless switch (no clue where that is!)on your computer is on. To see an updated list, click "Refresh network list."
So, when I refresh network list I get the same message.
As I recall, (I've had this computer problem for several months and have been self medicating), the computer would search for a wireless network. Doesn't seem to be doing that now.
I am heartened by the progress you have enabled me to make in solving this problem. Thank you very much. Can you suggest something to get me over this last (hopefully)hurdle?
I'm a bit confused. If you are at home and you don't have a wireless router in your home, then you cannot expect to be able to connect to a wireless network. The only time you might be able to connect,is if one of your neighbors has an unsecured wireless network that you can connect to. If no wireless networks show up in the list when you are at home, it either means that there are no wireless networks in range that you can connect to, or there is something else wrong. If you know that you are within range of a wireless network that you have permission to connect to then indeed your wireless radio may be turned off. The Fn F2 key combination toggles the wireless radio on and off.
Oops, I can see why you found my last email confusing. Actually, I did go to a neighbors house who has wireless and was able to hook up with a bit of tweeking. So, I believe the problem is solved. I couldn't have done it without your help!! Thank you very much for sharing your time and expertise. You are truly one of the good guys! MM
