The problems you describe are symptoms of a different problem. One cannot simply install graphics for IE8 and MS Office. In order to diagnose this, I need the model of your Dell and operating system. Other than the problems with IE8 and Office, what else is wrong with the computer?

i've been dealing with this for weeks and my frustration is through the roof.

i have a dell dimension 4600 with windows xp.

another problem i have is that the words under the icons on my desktop are now in little boxes like the olden days.

prior to the IE8 and application problems, my icon text boxes were invisible.

note, i recently installed a new graphics card, it is a geforce 6200.

the choice of the geforce 6200 was as a result of my computer's age.

i have contacted nvidia and dell and sent my computer to my brother who is more computery than i.

all to no avail.

Based on what you've described, I would guess you have a video card driver problem. So you might want to suggest to your brother to remove the drivers from the previous video card and install the current NVidia drivers.

If you get a response from Dell or NVidia, they are likely to tell you the same thing. If you purchased the video card from a local store, the best thing to do is bring your computer to the store and ask them to help you install the drivers properly.
