Dell Optiplex 790 USFF External Gpu
The Dell Optiplex 790 USFF has a mini PCIe slot in it and I got one of those external laptop GPU adapters from amazon. When I hook it up, I get display output, but then the screen goes blank and I get an error code of 1 and 2 which means expansion issue. If I turn off the external PSU for the GPU, I get error code of 2 and 4. Is there a way to fix this or mod something to make it work?
this is an interesting way to upgrade gpu in usff business class pc.
I am guessing wildly. Is it possible your bios is in UEFI mode blocking the mini PCIe adapter card because it does not recognize the card? try turn off secure boot and UEFI mode in bios and boot in legacy mode.

I have the same issue with my OptiPlex 3020 SFF , no signal when I add Nvidia gt 1030 2gb ddr5 oc
OptiPlex 3020 , Win 10 pro 64bit , 8gb ddr3, 250gb ssd
Updated the bios to O3020A20 the latest on dell website
Configured every possible option in bios, changed the primary gpu between auto , dedicated and onboard. tried UEFI option with every possible combination on the bios. Chose multiple screens on/off. removed ram, ssd, dvd rom one at a time, remove the bios battery and waited 10min (while it wasn't plugged in for sure).
Also downloaded the Gpu driver from gigabyte website, rebooted the pc and connected the vga port to my monitor , the system recognised the gt 1030 and I was able to install the driver but on reboot again there was no signal. I have spent a whole day trying different scenarios and search the dell forums but honestly I just wana through this pc out of the window and get another brand.
There are numerous complains on this issue without even 1 solution!!!!!!
