now when i look at the documentation it sure looks like that, but the sound cap option is available in the idrac settings, so it must be a gui bug that the option is seen if it shouldn't be available.

Just to double confirm that you have iDRAC and BIOS in up to date versions right?

Could you check in BIOS, if the Sound cap can be toggled on/off from there?

I don't think Tower server have capability to have sound cap option, but I'll have to confirm that with engineering. Meanwhile do feedback to us if BIOS has the sound cap option.

and off course when i posted my last reply i found the settings, it's under the Idrac setting in the Bios, under the thermal Profile.

i can confirm that there is no sound cap there

all i have is Default thermal profile

i'm running BIOS Version 2.6.3 and iDRAC Firmware Version 4.10.10.10.

Where in the bios do i find the setting for the fans?

if it's under the system profile settings then i only have:

Performance per watt (DAPC)

Performance per watt (OS)

Performance

Workstation Performance

Custom.

But these settings does not reflect what i have enabled in Idrac, right now i have enabled the Default thermal profilen in Idrac, but in the bios the Performance per watt (DAPC) is selected.

So do i have to look elsewhere?

Also as a personal note, the sound cap should exist for tower servers since there is a higher chance that tower servers will be used in a office environment than rack mounted servers, usually the rack mounted servers is stuck in a separate room, but the tower server is stuck under a desk.

But if the sound cap is not available for the T440 server because it's a lower tier, then i can understand that.

So the sound cap option is not available when going throu the pre boot bios idrac settings but is available when going throu the web idrac settings but I get a error when trying to save the selected sound cap option.

I agree on your point. Can I confirm with you that, the sound cap option is not available in iDRAC settings? Or there is but occurred error RAC0618 if you tried to set it? Please ignore the BIOS settings on sound cap, I was reading the whitepapers wrong. 

oh, i forgot to add that i have tried resetting idrac settings to factory default. i chose the option where everything except the accounts would be resetted
