This is the first I've heard of flashing through a SD card. I can tell you from a support stand point that what we try generally includes the following:

1. Power drain

2. NVRAM clear

3. Attempting to flash the iDRAC from the OS (LCC or iDRAC web interface as well, if they will load)

Is there any chance you're thinking of the iDRAC's vFlash feature? If so, that's more for various boot media

For what it's worth, I'll investigate this further on my end to see if there is an SD related methodology to try.

I fully understand what a bricked iDRAC is and reiterated the standard troubleshooting steps for addressing them. I also qualified the web interface because I am fully aware that it generally doesn't load. However, I have in a few instances still been able to get in. 

As for flashing through the SD, the only possible approach I have found for that would be to load a bootable image into flash to boot from, and then run the update from there. However, that would not be functionally different from updating from a standard operating system. A job would still have to be created for the LCC to perform the update.

As I said, see my other posts, I've tried absolutely everything else, everything you just said included.

I can't flash from the OS as I have server 2019 and it complains about an IPMI driver, tried NVRAM and clearing out power, made no difference, and, I don't think you understand the concept of a bricked iDrac, the web interface doesn't work anymore when it's bricked. It fails to initialize and the fans runs high.

I had the same problem on  3  Dell R620 servers, server  failed and didn't boot waiting for idrac initialisation . if you wait long enough it restart 3 times and come on to hard disk boot but with fans spinning like jet planes . 

Tried booting from DRM software from Dell but didn't work . 

Tried formatting SD card with FAT32 and copy firming.d7 and boot the system with it in the sd card slot in the front for R620 and that fixed it . A power cycle after the update is required . 

That fix only one system , the other 2 system didn't detect the SD card or didn't boot from it for whatever reason .
