Go to SolutionDELL T40 - CPU upgrade
Hi,
I have a question about the DELL T40 mini server.
I would like to replace the processor in it because 4 cores and 4 threads are not enough.
Does anyone know what processors can be installed in it?
I know that the documentation says that it only supports this processor (E-2224G) but maybe someone tried to upgrade?
I don't want to replace the server

With the T40 I am only showing 3 supported processors (E2224G, I3-9100, and the G5400), but none of which will exceed the 4 core / 4 thread limit you're seeing now.

You could potentially (and completely unsupported by Dell) try fitting a Xeon 2244G (4 cores, 8 threads) which has the same 71W as the 2224G. There are other options in the Coffee Lake series of Xeons, but with the abysmal cpu cooler and PSU that might be a stretch. Whether the BIOS supports other CPUs is a completely different matter altogether. I might try this on my T40 in a couple of years when the prices have dropped on the Coffee Lake Xeons.

PowerEdge T40 supports up to one Intel ® Xeon ® E-2224G processor with up to 4 cores per processor.

If you're referring to E-2244G, in papers, it is not supported: https://dell.to/3FHByMs
Unsure if others in this community has successfully manage to install it. We'll probably wait for anyone to reply to you.
