New FAQ request - SC420

I was wondering if there are plans or something in the works for the newer PE SC420 servers?  I have been reading up on the issues related to using it as a workstation but there appears to be very little related to using the box as it was intended - as a low-end workgroup or SOHO server.

Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone.  :smileywink:

Yeah. I'd like someone who uses it as a DEDICATED server, and does NOT use it as a workstation, to please post something.

    Let's see the responses.

I bought two Dell SC420 boxes with Windows Server 2003 for
my home computer lab. One is a DC and the other a member server.
Both are working okay so far. What specific info do you need?

Does SC420 noisy? I heard it got a noisy fan.

Any compatibility issue with Windows 2003 server OS? Did you have hard time finding the device driver for your SC420 after windows 2003 server installation?

The fan is not noisy. It makes about as much noise as
a typical desktop PC. Windows Server 2003 runs fine on
the SC420. In fact, during the OS setup, there is no
option to install Windows 2000 Server, when using the
Dell-supplied CD-ROM to assist the OS setup.

Also, when the system is ordered from Dell, you cannot
buy it with Windows 2000 Server pre-installed.

sorry to bring an old topic back up, but seeing as how this one hasn't gotten many responces, i thought i'd go ahead and comment. i have a friend using an sc420 as an astaro security linux firewall box. it does all the dhcp serving, routing, firewall, etc at the office. its been working great with an uptime of several months now.
