poweredge 1800 windows 2003 raid controller perc 4/DC
Hope this newbie can get some help here!
our poweredge 1800 Raid controller Perc4/dc failed last week.
i installed the exact same controller D9205 and rebooted.
I can now only get this to boot up if I disable the Primary scsi controller and the embedded sata controller. at which point the system boots up just fine with all system go except for the PowerVault
100T dat72 tape drive. when i check under storage controll, libaries it has a red circle and a white x beside it.
If I reboot and go into setup and change either or both the primary scsi controller and the embedded sata controller, then the system blinks a red light and will not boot up.
i believe there is some type of configuration error in the bois but not sure? maybe IRQ ASSIGNMENT.
Did you attach the cables the same way they were previously? Where do the cables from the PERC go, and what does the cable from the tape drive attach to?
What options do you have for Embedded SCSI Controller and Embedded SATA Controller?
The tape drive is connected in the SCSI1 slot, as before.
The primary SCSI controller is set to off, but used to be set to on. (cannot boot if it is turn on).
That would explain why the tape is not functional. If you disable SCSI on the system board then SCSI1 will not operate.
The tape drive may be faulty. I'm not sure what the PERC issue was that caused you to replace it, but that issue may have actually been a problem with the SCSI1 slot, cable, or tape drive. It could also be a completely separate issue.
I would try disconnecting the cable from SCSI1 and enable SCSI in the BIOS to see if the system works that way.
if i disconnect the cable from the scsi slot (tape) and enable the scsi in the bois, the machine will not boot up.
Will not POST or will not boot? Enabling the SCSI controller may be altering the boot order. What message/screen is the POST/boot stopping on when the SCSI controller is enabled?
