Hi there. I have a Dell Poweredge 4400 that is reporting in event viewer that the controller battery needs reconditioning and to use the controllers management software. Which software package do I need to download to do this? Also, I read somewhere in another post by a Dell|Talk rep that some controllers have batteries while others do not, and that those controllers that do have batteries do NOT need to be reconiditioned! I am confused.
I do not have that item under the start menu. I believe we ordered the server with no OS on it and we installed it ourselves. Which software package is this recondition program in? There are a muiltitude of items under the controller
software section for the PE4400. Also, is reconditioning it really necessary?
I saw one post that seemed to say that it wasn't?
The FAST software referred to by Tim, can be found on our File library. The correct file to download depends on the version of Firmware running on your PowerEdge Expandable Raid Controller (PERC) 3/di and of course your Operating System.
I will provide the latest versions of the files for NT 4.0 / Win2000. If needed, upgrade the driver first, then the firmware and finally the FAST software.

Hi. I still have some confusion about Perc update process and selecting the correct file. Our account has five server with Perc packs. Their TAG's are 1XRY501; 1DD1X; 6GXLK01; G9VF211; and 8WQX10B. Where on the Dell support site do I find the latest Perc update information for these systems? Also, and will updating the Perc files take care of the recoondition battery messaging that we are receiving?
Thanks,
Syd

Dell ESM Firmware, Multi-System, A51 Filename: a51cust.exe (405 KB) Note: Extract the files to a DOS bootable floppy disk. Boot the server to this floppy disk, and run smflsh.exe
If you will provide the Operating System you are currently running, I will be happy to advise the rest of the files needed.
In general all of the updates can be found on our file library at: http://support.dell.com/us/en/filelib/ or
The files are sorted by computer type, Operating System and component.
FYI, these are the other servers you indicated and the Perc controleer in each: G9VF211, a PowerEdge 2550 with a Perc 3/dc 6GXLK01, a PowerEdge 6400 with a Perc 2/dc 1DD1X, a PowerEdge 4300 with a Perc 2/sc 1XRY501, a PowerEdge 2450 with a Perc 2/dc All of these use LSI Logic (formerly AMI) based Perc's.
I have a PE 2500 PERC 3/DI, Windows 2000 OS and Dell OpenMange Array Manager is installed on the server. I tried to follow the instructions from the knowledge base # TT1037353 to recondition the battery but could not find the Properties... Recondition button (step 2 and 3 under the DOMAN of the knowledge base). Does this mean I have to update my system with the latest updates that you mentioned in previous messages?
Thank for this information. The operating system on the PowerEdge 2400 is Win NT 4.0. I would greatly appreciate a list of the other files that are required to update this system.
Thanks!
Syd

In Array Manager's left hand pane, you should see the Server Name at the top with Arrays as the first category beneath.
Click the + to expand Arrays, you see Perc Subsystem
Click the + to see Physical Array
Click the + to see Perc 3/di
If you right click Perc 3/di, and click Properties, do you see the recondition button?

You can look at controller properties and recondition the battery there.
