- Its community supported versus RHEL 4 which has a vendor and OEM to support it. There is nothing wrong with Fedora Core, but it all comes down to one question. If there is a bug that takes down your server, do you want to wait on a news group to resolve the problem or get the vendor on the phone and start working on the problem.
- Eric, just to let you know that the reason why we're running core is because it was recommended by one of our partners and we've been running it for 2 years now. Too much work to rebuild and put RHEL on it. Also, can someone help me with configuring SNMP so I can have my IT Assistant see this server running OpenManage
- There is no need to guess. FC3 uses similar libraries and kernel to RHEL 4. FC4 and FC5 are improvements on FC3, but RHEL 4 doesn't have any of its base requirements on either version. i.e. FC5 is currently using 2.6.17 kernel with some 2.6.18 patches. RHEL 5 beta is currently using the 2.6.18 kernel, but is much closer to FC 6 than FC5.RHEL 5 isn't due out until after the new year, but FC6 may ship before that.
