I have a power edge 6300 and I'd like to set it up with windows 2000 server. I don't have any documention on the server so I wondering if someone could help me out?
The following is a link to all the downloads available for the 6300 running windows 2000. What is going to be important is the driver for the PERC Controller. When the server starts up you will see a line of text that says something like "Dell Poweredge Expandable Raid Controller.2Si...Bios or Frmw version 2.1-3". Note the model name of the PERC controller and the firmware version. When loading Windows 2000 you will need to provide a driver version that matches the firmware version on the controller. Download the driver file, unzip it to a floppy disk, boot to the windows 2000 CD, press F6 when prompted and put the floppy disk with the PERC driver in drive A.
The server current has windows 2000 server install. I want to do a complete fresh install, so these that mean that I don't have to install the new PERC2 drivers or do any firmware updates?
When you do a fresh install, using the windows 2000 server CD, you will have to provide a driver (at the F6 prompt). And the driver version needs to match the firmware version on the raid controller. Otherwise, windows will not recognize the drives during the install.
Thanks for all the information so far....I would like to update all the firmware/drivers and so to to the latest versions, but I don't know exactly what I need or when I need to apply them. If you can help me would this I am sure this will help with my install.
