I'm planning to install our SQL05 server and store its db files on the MD3000i. The server is Dell 1950 with RAID1 and partition C: for system and D: for database logs. From your experience, should I put the logs on the MD3000i as well? I read the best practices is to put logs on another controller in RAID1. Is this still apply if i put the diskgroup only for the sql server and put both logs and db files here?
I don't think the logs necessarily need to be on another 'controller', but definitely on a different set of physical disks.
I'd suggest indeed 2 drives in a raid 1 for the logs and then 6 or more drives in a raid 10 for the actual database. Only put a single virtual disk in a diskgroup (max size).
