Firmware compatibility

Hello,

I have in my company a Power Vault ML6000 equipped with LTO4 tapes.

We use a third party software as Hierarchical Storage Manager (running on a CENTOS5 server) and its only requirements are the needs of the LINUX commands mtx and mt.

Now we currently have a very old version of the firmware (500b). I read in this link ftp://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/powervault-ml6000-all.html that more recent version of the firmware are OS independent. Can I assume then that mt and mtx commands are still working on these new firmware versions?

    Hello GianniCZ,

With the new versions of firmware the element addressing that the ML6000 has doesn’t change.  So if your backup software saw the slots before it will after the firmware upgrade as well.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
