I've been looking to get a certain one but i want to know if it is in any way overclockable, i know the cpu should be but i dont know about the motherboard.
The precision i was looking at had a Xeon W-2123, it should be good for multithreading and all i'll probably need, but i want to know if i can overclock or replace the PSU to give the thing more power because in the near future i might get 2 rtx 3060's to make my 3d rendering better and so that i can do some simulations too, maybe i'll have to do weird things to the case for it to actually fit the PSU in it though but it should be worth it, i just would like to know if i can really give it the boost i want.
No, the motherboard cannot be. Workstations are meant for business, and business favors stability and long time usage. This means avoiding putting more stress on components.
As you said, you can do some "limited" (compared to the one you could do on platforms designed to allow it) cpu overclock using an intel tool if I'm not mistaken, but that's all
but can it be overclockable with any other gpu like a 3080 because i heard a 3080 with some bios updates can function, but like a 3090 or anything more powerful like a rtx titan, would those function as well, im just curious
The RTX 3060 is 170w and requires one 8-pin connector. The 950w PSU for the 5820 is enough to power 2 of those as long as it has two 8-pin connectors for GPU's.
Well, if your target is overclocking the gpu and not the cpu, things are different. There are various brands selling rtx cards, some brands offer overclocking tools themselves. Otherwise there are some generic overclocking tools.
If the card ends drawing more power, you'll have to stress test to see if it's stable or not.
Hmm so its possible for xeons sort of but well if theres anything to tweak a extreme edition or an X edition i’ll look around for that but for now i kinda wanna know what thing you can use to tweak the those
