Dell Command | Update 4.5 & service not starting

Dell Command | Update

I recently updated this app to v. 4.5.0 on my 4 years old Precision 5530, using Windows 10.
Since then, the apps works ok only during the session after installation. In subsequent Windows sessions, the app doesn't work, as the 'Dell Client Management Service' fails to start.
The only workaround is to uninstall the app, reinstall it again and check updates immediately after that.
For some obscure reason, the 'Dell Client Management Service' can be successfully started by DCU Setup, but will fail to start in subsequent sessions (the service uses the System acccount to run, as expected, and is set to automatic/delayed start); manually starting the service also fails with just generic error 1053.

Known issue ? Workarounds ?

    Help ?

I'm not eager to reinstall Windows from scratch - this has been done not so long ago and laptop has been carefully managed since then...and as everybody knows, reinstalling apps and putting all settings and user prefs back is long & tedious

Well, it's just that I anticipate someone would answer: "reinstall your OS from scratch and see if your problem goes away"; I therefore insist on finding the root cause of the problem to try solving it without complete OS reinstallation...

I am not sure what your comment means? It appears not to be related to the question asked.

    YEARS.

This problem existing since at least 2020.

    Will make DCU works ONCE:

Retake ownership and full control of folder: C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService.

Delete folder "Client" in folder updateservice.

    Restart 'Dell Client Management Service'.

DCU will run and update driver....ONCE. After that it's over. You have to do it again...

    YEARS Dell....YEARS.

    @CGHY

Great! Thank you a lot for your suggestion.

I understand that this is only a temporary fix, but it solves my problem at least for now.

I wrote a simple script to get Dell Command Update to actually launch.

    https://github.com/domb84/dellcommandupdate

Clone the repository, make a shortcut of launch.bat on your desktop and rename it Dell Command Update. Use that to launch it.
