Dell 968 order and missing wireless card.
I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Last week I ordered the wireless version of the Dell 968. The printer did not include the wireless card. It's not installed and it was not included in the box.
Customer Care says the printer shipped with the wireless card and I had to speak to printer technical support. I went through a series of useless exercises with support. Turning the printer on and off, unplugging the power, reseating the non-existent wireless card.
The card is not in the printer. There is no antenna on the LCD display, there is no wireless menu option, and the port where the card is supposed to be is covered by a white faceplate. If I remove the faceplate I can clearly see the socket where the card should be plugged into.
Printer Technical Support transferred me back to customer care who wants me to ship back the whole printer. I'm using the printer every day and sending back the printer is not ideal. I don't understand why they can't just send me the missing wireless card? Anyway. I said if all they could do is have me return the printer then lets do that because at least I'll get what I ordered. I was then transferred to someone else to process the refund. After spending 15 minutes trying to find my order he realized I was in Canada. He couldn't do anything else other then give me the phone number I called in the first place.
I've now spent almost 2 hours on the phone this afternoon. I just hung up after being on hold for about 20 minutes. I just want the wireless card I originally ordered. I'd really prefer not to mail back the whole printer. If it comes to that it would make more sense to just return the printer and go to Best Buy and pick up something that's on the shelf. It seems like a simple support issue but nobody seems to be able to help me.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I have one attached to my Dell Photo 964 AIO Printer for many years and have no problems.
If you purchased one, would you like help with the installation and I fell almost certain I can get it to work with the 968 printer.
Are you sure the 968 wireless adapter is bad or maybe you didn't setup the wireless card correctly.
What you need to do is try using these settings in your wireless router. You will also need to follow these instructions to un-install the printer and then re-install it.
First make sure your computer has all the Windows updates. I have the custom ones too, especially the new framework(Needed to run many applications). Also make sure to have the latest Java. Since you didn't mention how the printer's connected, here the basic instructions for this printer.
Disconnect your printer.
Un-install your printer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper drivers.
I recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings to get everything to communicate correctly. I have DHCP enabled on my wireless router. I assigned my printer an ip address at the high end of my ip address. (Example: my printer ip address is 192.168.1.149) All the other computer get assigned an ip address automatically.

Choose your printer. Beneath your printer, select your operating system. You'll be redirected to another page. Then click on show all steps. It will walk you through the installation process.
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Hi Bill
I purchased two 968's in late 2008 and although I ordered the wireless version it didnt have the adapter in either? This seems to be a reoccurring issue during that period judging by posts like the above. Can you assist if I provide my service tags to you?

Bill has a different role at Dell and my not be getting email responces to the forum threads anymore.
Go to Dell Warranty Status enter the service tag numbers. It should tell you if it has a wireless adapter or not. The hint would be Dell 968w for wireless adapter.
The Dell wireless 968w Printers had an antenna attached to the wireless adapters.
