I have a problem with my 2yr old DELL AIO 962 printer. My color cartridges are still full, yet they quit working. The printer shows an error message stating: "RIGHT CARTRIDGE INCORRECT". My color cartridges are still almost full. I rarely do any color printing, and then they just suddenly fail. The printer stops recognizing them. They are not incorrect, they are part # M4646. This is infuriating because I never have a problem with the black cartridges, only these color ones. Now I cannot even print in black because of this ridiculous error message!!!
Dell will not do anything about it, because our warranty is expired. Tech support / Customer service gives you the run around…."take it out, clean the contacts, unplug the printer, disconnect printer power source" ,,,blah, blah, blah. I have tried everything. Nothing solves this problem.. I don’t know if it’s a printer issue, or if the COLOR cartridges are just garbage. I regret buying Dell products! Dell should recall these and/or the printer also, like they are their notebook batteries!
I am not the only one with this problem. Go to GOOGLE and type “right cartridge incorrect” and see how many people have the same problem.
So, my last resort is to visit this Forum and read about other people’s problems, and hopefully find some help.
Short of throwing this printer out the window, does anyone have any suggestions to remedy this? I am so sick of buying these color cartridges when they are not even close to empty!!!
It is very unfortunate that Dell is providing "real" assistance in correcting this issue. It is amazing that my problem with my printer is so common that if I didn't know better I would have thought the person below was ease dropping on my tech support call. I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years purchasing various components and the customer services speaks to me in a matter of fact mode. I know a little about residual customers and this isn't the way to retain them. If anyone actually hade this problem resolve I would like to hear it. Thank you for your assistance.
I just got the same "Right Cartridge Incorrect" problem that it seems many Dell AIO 962 Printer owners are getting. Same issue too, color cartridge was working fine until I replaced the black one, then magically the printer thinks the COLOR one is incorrect. Luckily for me I had an extra color cartridge, so I replaced it and it works fine, but that leaves me with a 90% full color cartridge that is now useless. Luckily for me again I contacted tech support and explained the issue and they're sending me a new color cartridge. So now I'm curious if, when I replace the black one again, if the same thing will happen. We'll see in a few months. But at least Dell is replacing the cartridge, though it seems that will be rather pricey for them to keep replacing full color cartridges.
not sure, i read a post at the link below that said something about taking the battery or power thing out of the printer, involves using a screwdriver to take the back of the printer off, changing the registery on your computer, seems a bit intensive. besides that, like i said above, one option besides
buying another printer is contacting tech support, telling them the issue, and they should send you a new color cartridge, free of charge, even though the issue itself isn't the color cartridge, which seems sort of backwards when you think about it but whatever. i think they're definitely aware of the issue and from my experience dell has been pretty good taking care of their customers. so you may have to wait on the phone for a while, and wait 3-5 business days to get your new cartridge, but after that you should be good, at least until you have to swap the black cartridge again, then the process may commence again. in the meantime i read you can still print in black and white if you take the color cartridge out and hit continue when you get prompted with an error message. anyway here's the afformentioned link:
just an update on the aio 962 printer right cartridge incorrect error: just had to swap my black cartridge so i took out both the empty black cartridge AND the color cartridge. then i put the new black cartridge in and the SAME color cartridge back in again, and it works fine! no right cartridge error at all, and i'm able to keep using my 70% color cartridge. not sure if this will work for everyone but it worked for me. good luck to all.
i got the same problem, and now cant even use the printer at all.. ours started by refilling the cartridge when it was 10% or so left, and than we got about 5 more prints out of it, than after that it gives us the error messages and we cant do a thing.. there needs to be a reset for this or something, im not gonna drop 45+ on new cartridges when all my ink is filled.. right cartridge incorrect just gets me, t he right was never touched nor pulled out.
Is it not strange that this issue went quiet for 18 months? It ha sjust happened to me! If you look at the 'gearbits' site you will read that this is a widespread problem that is shrouded in mystery with a number of tips that have worked and not worked. I see no comment by the Dell moderater on this issue. Perhaps the threats of legal action keeeeps them quiet. The whole thing seems sinister, . Meantime if you remove the colour cartridge you can print in black. That has helped me till I go buy a non Dell printer
I had a similar problem with my 962 printer reporting that the right cartridge is incorrect. Unfortunately, according to Dell Printer Tech Support, The warranty for ANY of their cartridges is 1 year from manufacture date, when sealed in its pouch. After installation, 6 months max is about all you can expect before the ink dries up and the cartridge malfunctions. Why the printer provides the wrong error message is still an unanswered mystery. I have implored Dell to mention this lifespan information when purchasing cartridges. Therefore, it is not wise to purchase any cartridges in advance of use, and most importantly, verify the manufacture date. If it is already old when you receive , do not use it. Return it to Dell immediately. Furthermore, as Staples is now carrying their cartridges, it is imperative that you closely scrutinize this date and refuse to buy those that do not qualify. It is debatable whether any and all Staples locations will properly handle these perishable items.
