Dell Photo 928 error 1102

Hi, I have the marvellous error 1102 that quite a few other people have experienced. Mine appeared out of nowhere - no funny noises, no cartridge changes, nothing. Still, I've tried all of the advice, read all of PudgyOne's replies and still have the same sodding error. It's extremely frustrating. Does any one have the magic solution for this one?

Thanks

    Hi Rick

I have tried all that already. I have re-started my PC, the printer, removed the adaptor from the back of the printer, removed the cartriges one at a time, removed them both together, cleaned the cartrige sensors and cleaned the alignment tape (or whatever it's called, the see-through tape). None of this has worked. It only makes the printer change it's mind between error 1102 and 1103. These cartridges (series 10) are a few months old, I don't print a lot, but when I do it's usually urgent. Last time I printed was last week, with no problems. I have not changed anything that I have done. The colour level was fine (36% or so) last time I printed.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

    Shiny1,

The error code looks like it's from the cartridge. If they are NOT Dell Series 10 cartridges, that can be a part of the problem. Only other option is to look at the encoder strip.

    Shiny1,

You are using Dell Series 10 ink cartridges, correct? A bad or faulty sensor will give this error message. Another mamber said...

It keeps giving me an error (cartridge errror 1102). It says the cartridge is unsupported. I took off all the tape and installed it correctly the first time. I was able to print 2 photos just fine then all of a sudden it gave me that error message. What do i do?

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Plug everything back in and power on the printer. Now remove the Dell Series 10 Color cartridge. Make sure the tape is off the cartridge and reseat the cartridge. Then close the printer and it will print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Dell Series 10 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges

Dell Series 10 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It is possible the cartridge has a bad sensor. Try taking it back to the place of purchase for a replacement.

Hi Rick, they are definitely series 10 cartridges, bought from the Dell website, and I have already tried cleaning the encoder strip. I'll have to try buying new cartriges again and see if that works. If it does, I will be sending the old ones back to Dell with the bill. Looks like they have an inherent problem which users are having to pay for. Thanks for trying to help.

    Shiny1,

Bad sensors and dried out cartridges seem to be adding up a little more than usual. People trying to save money, so they're not buying the brand name so they sit there and get old and dried out. I actually found out that some people put their printers near an air duct and this was drying out their cartridges.

I have my printer in a corner and keep covered 24/7. I have an opening where the paper leaves the tray so it can remain covered except when I need to scan/copy.

If you do find out the cartridges are bad, contact Dell and they should send you replacements. Tell them about the error code.

    Hi Rick,

After few months I still get this error message and I cannot use my printer at all. I use Dell cartridges and I tried with more than one.

Since my warranty expired, I was trying to find a solution by myself with no chance so far.

Someone told me "the print head has failed: In order to fix this the print head inside the printer needs to be replaced. The print head is the part of the printer that puts ink from the cartridges onto the page. Unfortunately this can sometimes cost more to replace then the machine itself".

Honestly I thought the print head is on the cartridge for this printer, so I'm not sure about this answer. What do you think about it?

I need a printer and I need to take a choice... Throw away this one, or buy a new one (the new one will be definitely not Dell, I'm really disappointed: in 2 years I used it only 9 - 10 times...)

    Thanks,

    Max

    Max,

If memory serves me correctly, the Dell Series 10 ink cartridges for the Dell 928 Printer, have the printhead on the ink cartridges. Replaceing the Dell Series 10 ink cartridge also replaces the printhead.
