Printer 810

I have an 810 printer but it hasn't worked for me for awhile now and I'm just getting to trying to figure it out!  I uninstalled and tried to reinstall the printer and I get a message saying this:

Script:  C:/Drivers/printer/810/dlcgEN.vbs

Line:  11

Char:  1

Error:  Permission Denied

Code:  800A0046

Source:  Micorsoft VBScript runtime error

So now I'm really lost and have no idea what to do next!   My daughter needs the silly printer for a school project and I'm panicking!  Anyone have some ideas?

Thanks, Sam

Have your tried downloading the newest driver from Dell? I would remove the printer and then download and install the newest drivers. After downloading the driver and you have to install the drivers to a specific folder, create a folder called c:\printer and install it there instead of c:\drivers.... See what happens....

    Thanks

    Sam,

I have seen many error messages caused by the drivers not being installed correctly and/or connecting the printer early causing Windows to install the wrong drivers. Please follow the instructions below and let me know what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch (Patch must be run on Vista machines) to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch until it prompts you to restart your computer.

    Restart your computer.

    Download the proper drivers.

    XP Drivers

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

    Vista 32-bit Drivers

    Vista 64-bit Drivers

    All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. Only download the drivers for your operating system. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

    Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

I have Vista and I don't see a way to direct it where to save.  But when I did install again it just gave me that error again!

    Sam,

Did you see my post about using the patch? This has worked for someone else, so give it a try.

I got all the way to the "Print an Alignment Page" in the installation process but it says the following:

This option is not available while the printer is busy.

And the green light on the printer is blinking instead of a steady light.

    Any other suggestions?

    Sam,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer. Wait 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in. This resets any error messages the printer is getting.

Power the printer on. Open up the printer and take out the Black Dell Series 6 ink cartridge. Make sure there is no tape on it and reseat the Dell series 6 ink cartridge. Now do the same for the Colou Dell Series 6 ink cartridge. When you close the printer, it should print an alignment page on its own. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = Black side(left side)          Color Cartridge = Color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)         Color cartridge = Color side(right side)

Dell Series 6 ink cartridges have a sensor in them and cannot be refilled. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges

Dell Series 6 ink cartridges can be purchased from Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

After you get the printer working on its own, the printer may have to be re-installed, again.

Done the above except I only have one cartridge, a color one (series 6), so I reseated that but the light is still blinking!  And no alignment page printed!  I'm so frustrated!

    Sam,

Your are correct, there is only 1 Color Dell Series 6 ink cartridge in this printer. Most of the inkjets use two, so I was assuming, again, sorry.

I tried to look at the 810 manual and it doesn't give any helpful information. You can try going to Dell - Printer error codes and it will walk you through the process. I really can't say what the error is but it looks like the pattern the flashes occur will give you a clue if it's a paper jam, (look where the paper leaves the tray for a little switch and make sure it's not stuck) or a bad sensor in the Dell Series 6 ink cartridge. If it's a bad sensor, and the trouble shooter will hep you with the error code, you should take it back to the place of purchase for a replacement.

After you stop the printer from blinking on its own, then you'll be able to install the printer.
