After successsfully reading files on a floppy disk in my Dell 2400 desktop, I now get a message telling me it needs to be formatted. Formatting of course erases data. What are my options?
Try a different formatted floppy diskette and see if you get the same message. If you do there could be a problem wiht the floppy drive or if it still gives you the same message, uninstall the floppy drive in the Windows Device Manager then restart Windows and the floppy drive will be detected and reinstalled. Then try the known good (formatted) floppy diskette and see if you get the same thing.
If the other formatted floppy shows as OK then most likely your "data" floppy has lost the format, for whatever reason. (being in proximity of a magentic device can cause the floppy to erase data and/or format).
