MS Word documents changed.

I have MS Works Suite 2000 w/Word and a few of the documents that I've made in Word have suddenly changed to a lot of little boxes and jibberish ( strange little fonts of some kind). This has only happened to the data in some, not all, of the documents that I've created from the insert from scanner in the main menu. I scan bank deposit slips so I'll have a record of my deposits. It seems this only happened in the data scanned into some of the Word documents and a couple of documents created with tables in them. I've changed the normal.dot to .bak and rebooted, done a copy and save to .rtf, then back to a .doc file, but problem still persists. Should I uninstall and reinstall Word?

I've done Google searches and tried Dell's search engine here (which I consider almost useless), but haven't found anything that works.

Thanks Jay

Jay, since it's mostly scanned documents, getting scanned documents into a wordprocessor is tricky and even trickier to get the without any garbled data. The OCR programs are not 100%. But, once they are in, it should stay however the OCR program delivered it to Word.

Most MSWord versions have a "Detect and Repair" option, accessed from the Word Help pulldown menu. You can try running that to see if it helps. You will need your MS Word Install CD.

It could also be a font issue. If you changed, added, or deleted any fonts, maybe the one originally used is what is causing the problem.
