Poweredge Server 2950
There is an option in the Bios to change cores per processor. Does this increase performance per core? or does it merely just reduce the # of cores. If so why? Also if anyone has any suggestions to increase the performance per core, I would greatly appreciate it as I have some software that will only take a single core and if I could increase that cores performance, I would be incredibly greatful.
Thank you !

It is for licensing purposes (some software is licensed 'per core') and disabling them will NOT increase performance of the CPU or the remaining cores.
To increase performance of your single-threaded application, replace the CPU(s) with one with a higher clock speed / cache ... or replace the server with a desktop with a high clock speed.
