If it's just the Audio that is distorted on playback, reinstall the Dell sound card drivers.  That usually takes care of the problem.

Thanks for the quick response but, I didn't give all the info.

My CD-RW drive refuses to play any discs..pre-recorded or burned.

My DVD ROM in the same machine plays ALL discs flawlessly.

I have no audio issues watching DVD movies or anything else for that matter.

No little yellow arrows in device manager either.

I've owned the machine a little over a year and don't think it's a wear-and-tear issue.

And just to be sure, I've run AdAware, Spybot S&D, Avast! Anti-Virus as well as Symantec and Trend Micro's online scans. Super Clean.

Can't figure it out.

Hello-Optical drives do burn out. A common sign of this is that the drive will read discs, but not write to them. I have had drives that appeared to be dead, but the problem was the laser lens was coated with dust. If your computer is in a dusty location, you may want to check that out before you toss the drive.
