delete duplicate OS (XP)

after reformatting my hard drive a while ago (with Dell help desk assistance), I notice that when I reboot/restart my PC it asks me which OS (XP) to use, and if I dont pick it defaults to the top choice which is the new OS I have been using since reformat.

If I manually choose the other OS, it is my old desktop with everything intact.  I DO NOT want this OS. I am only using the other OS. How do I delete the original OS completely?

also, if I click on My Computer, it lists Local Disk C and Local Disk D... how do I know which is which?

How to Remove a second copy of XP installed by error & how to Edit the Boot.ini File in Windows.

Click Start > Run > type, msconfig > Click, boot .ini tab > Then check all boot paths tab > Click on that and this should delete the choice that is not required > Click apply and reboot system. Check the box, telling Windows not to display that message again, so it will not be displayed in the future.

    Or use this.

    thank you for your response...

I did this and when I clicked check all boot paths it tells me

"It appears that all BOOT.INI lines for Microsoft operating systems are OK"

and under [operating systems] there are the following 2 lines and there is no option to delete anything, I can just click OK or Cancel

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    and

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
