DVD ROM drive problems
I have a Dell Dimension 4600 and am running Windows XP Home edition.
In my system I have a DVD ROM by TEAC and one by Samsung. When I run the drive diagnostics, both drives are picked up. Both drives are detected in BIOS. I have no alerts in Device Manager.
My TEAC is working fine but my Samsung doesn't.
It will light up on startup like the working drive and I can use the OS to eject a CD but no matter what I try to play or how I try to get it to play, nothing happens.
To my knowledge no one has taken the drive out of its place or did anything to the cables attached to it. Everything seems to be firmly in place.
The actual models and numbers for them are:
SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E (Not Working)
TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E (Working)

- I tried it after reading your question, and when I do that it asks me to insert a CD. I own an IBM and when I had that trouble they told me something was corrupted in the machine. I'm not sure that this is th same thing, but I have done a fresh reinstall of Windows XP about three days ago. The drive didnt work before I did the install either
