Error Code 2000-0147 (optical drive)

People, please help me to overcome the following problem.

The dvd drive on my laptop (Dell XPS M1530) was damaged. I ordered a new one on eBay (DELL XPS M2010 1530 DVD+-RW DRIVE TEAC DV-W28SLB 0RF681). After it was replaced the BIOS doesn't recognize it, nighter CDs  nor DVDs  are recognized, although, physically it works properly, i.e. inserts and ejects (when I push the eject button on my laptop) the CD/DVD. When I run the BIOS diagnostic it passed perfectly on everything except the optical drive, and it stated the following error message:

Error Code 0147
Msg: Error Code 2000-0147
Msg: Unit 0: Optical drive BIST -- OPU test faild.
The given error code and message can be used by Dell Technical Support
to help diagnose the problem.

The only operating system that I have on my laptop is Linux-Mandriva Spring 2008 One, so I cannot install anything else.

Please, if anybody knows how the following problem may be overtaken please leave a feedback, I will greatly appreciate the provided help. Thank you very much in advance.

    Tiger,

A 2000:0147 means your drive is failing or has failed already.

    Dear Robin,

Thank you for your quick response, but, unfortunately, there is nothing for the error 2000-0147. There is a list of options to resolve the problems 2000-(0141 to  0146), but nothing  about  2000-0147.

Dear Tiger Galo, I have the same problem but my dvd drive is not new. My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1420/M640) does not recognize CDs/DVDs.  The BIOS diagnostic gave me the same error code.

Did you get any response or suggestions about this?

    Thanks

Unfortunatelu, not yet. If I find something I will inform you. And please, if you find anything just keep in touch. Because if I don't find any solution longer, I have to order another DVD and will trow away this one :)

    Thanks

The solution is to replace the drive.  The error you received (2000:0147)
indicates the drive has failed.  It cannot be fixed.
