Jeff, I am looking for some input. You remember the movie where the robot said: Stefeny need input, hungry for input Stefeny. LOL
On the old fathfull Dimension XPS T500 Desktop, she be running win98se yet with roxie soft on the R/W cd drive . Do to the age and the speed of the unit, what would you recomend for a replacement R/W cdrom? The old Dell is still too good to send her to the scrap yard, plus all of Mrs. Cat games are on the unit! And I realy like to keep out of the dog house, so what ya think?...........Den..........

If you are dead set on a CD/RW, I will look some up for you.
If I did not have a brand new R/W dvd in the top slot I would go for it Jeff. The new DVD works great but not as fast as the orginal set up. The orginal DVD had a direct hook up to the G force vid card, when I had the unit beefed up they changed the vid card out to a ATI Radeon due to the G force was burning out again } third one I have burned up and the orginal dell dvd would not work, so another trip back and they installed a new R/W DVD that did not haft to tie directly in the vid card . So I realy only need a R/W CD................thanks Jeff.....Den......Ps.. Sorry about the turn around time. I kinda forgot where I posted this at, had to do some looking. Must of been too much cat nip........ *grin*

Hi Dennis,
I had looked at some optical drives last night at Wal-mart and the CD/RW were running betweent $30 and $40. I would hate to pay that for a CD/RW when you can pick up a DVD+/-RW at New Egg for around the same amount or less.
I would suggest you first uninstall the old drive from Device Manager, then shutdown and disconnect it before installing any drive. The only thing that comes to mind would be what version Roxio you had. If it is 5 and above I do not think you would have a problem with the DVD/RW being recognized.
If the software did not recognize the drive, you might have to uninstall and reinstall your Roxio. You may already know this but I will toss it out, an OEM drive will be barebones the majority of the time, no software or cables; Retail should have all the goodies...
If you are dead set on a CD/RW, I will look some up for you.
