Meta-head RAID 5 (3+1)

If the bin-file is setup for RAID 5 (3+1) and you only allocate 2 hypers to meta-head (total 3 hypers including the metahead). I would like know what adverse effect could happened?

I assume we are talking about traditional devices (thick) and not VP devices (TDEVs or thin).

If thick, your 3 metas will most likely be spread over 12 disks (3 raid groups of 4 disks).

So no adverse effect, except that when and if you start creating a bunch of odd metas, the way they get spread on the backend might not be as optimal as possible.

Metas in a thick environment are best with powers of 2, they will match the backend better that way.

What would be distinct between thick RAID 5 (3 +1) 4 hypers vs 3 hypers?

Caveat- Bin file setup for RAID 5 (3+1).

Typically 4 members would be on 16 drives and 3 members would be on 12 disks.

Again, assuming we are talking about traditional volumes, and not TDEVs.
