For migration purpose [from IBM to DMX array], I have mapped/masked the AIX host HBAs to both IBM and DMX arrays. The host is currently attached to IBM and using data path [vpath] multipathing software of AIX. And, for DMX devices, I am planning to install power path multipathing software.
Now the concern is
-whether powerpath will be used only for DMX luns OR even for existing IBM LUNs.
- If only be used to access DMX devices, it should be fine.
- Is there anyway I can configure power path only for DMX LUNs not disturbing existing vpath to IBM LUNs?
I prefer not to disturb the existing vpath and configure power path only to DMX luns
thanks dynamox .. as per the pdf, powerpath can co-exist but cant co-manage with third party multi-path software .. And, only for ESS, i have to run this command 'powermt manage class=ess' . But , for DS8000, it will disable the support for it during installation of powerpath.
So in my case, both vpath and powerpath can co-exist and support IBM DS8000 and DMX respectively , correct?
the way i am reading this is PowerPath will ignore your DS8000 because it's already being managed by 3rd party software. You don't need to do anything.
