Hi all, Does any one know the meaning for the following line and how to implement it in case of no labels. Its one of the step to migrate ESX server using OR.
if VMFS labels are used no reconfiguration of virtual machines is needed
not sure if that's related to the old version of ESX (2.5/3.0) but i have not seen any references to vmfs labels in a long time. I've migrated VMFS datastores from one array to another ( SanCopy but same block copy as OR). The only thing that had to be changed after migration was to re-signature VMFS volume. Chad explains it really well.
This is what i'm looking for but do we have to resignature the disk even if we dont enable spc-2 flag as this is a old version of ESX which will not require this flag.
Also do we need to unregister and register the VM's during the migration...
you will need to resignature because you are migrating to another device, and it has a different LUN id. There is a paragraph in Chad's blog that says "As soon as a VMFS volume gets resignatured, all the VMs need to be re-registered in Virtual Center." By the way ..if you have storage vmotion license ..you can do this online, present new devices to ESX clusters and move VMs live.
