Remote Access Device
Hi;
Very new to Dell servers (HP shop) and I know this is a very stupid question so I apoligize now. I've been trying to find info. without too much luck, it really just kept the confusion growing...
I have a brand new PowerEdge R310. Powered ON, pressed CTRL + E to configure RAC where I've set an IP, SM, DG, and also configured a user account (changed the default account that was there). Now how do I connect to this IP from another computer (remotely)? I can ping the IP but that's it. In fact, what does RAC allows me to do?
I thought it was similar to HP's ILO but now I realize it may require something more like a hardware card physically installed to have similar ILO functionality... But even then, there seems to be native RAC functionality without a hardware card added? What functionality?

Thanks for the quick reply... Some more information and anwers to your questions (IPs are only representative):
Server IP: 10.10.10.50
Server RAC IP: 10.10.10.51
I managed to install OpenManage on the server and now I can remotely access the server via the server's DNS name /IP(ex: https://10.10.10.50:1311). This is OS dependant in the sense that if the OS fails then there's no way to access it remotely which does not really help me. From the web page, under "Remote Access", I can see the following:

So from the two messages at the top, I guess I really need iDRAC Enterprise to enable "Remote Control" (ILO Style), right? On the other hand, it surely seems to have some type of Remote Access capability, which I am seeking. The IP 10.10.10.51 does reply to a ping but does not allow me to use it in a web browser, it just doesn't work. So what can this RAC IP do? What service is associated / available with this RAC IP?

Which iDrac is installed? Does it reference Express or Enterprise?
Second, if you go to a internet browser and enter the IP address of the iDrac, do you get a login prompt?
If so that default login is root:calvin
