ordered streak - am concerned .. pls put my mind at ease

this is my first post on this forum

I have ordered a dell streak to replace my now boring htc desire the streak has loads to offer however I have now found this forum and some of the issues worry me .

the main one is the glass cracking issue which loads of people are having despite not dropping the phone or accidently damaging it .. im buying direct from dell who i presumed was also in the uk but it turns out that there is no support here and any issues the phone has to go to the usa ..... why ?    is the glass issue a major issue or have a few people been lucky

the other issue is updates ... i know there is no 2.1 update for dell direct handsets which i believe is good because the o2 update screwed users phones however is dell likely to deliver 2.2 froyo ?? im paying £475 with the car kit and i dont want it to turn into a useless piece of plastic .

i believe 1.6 is good with the dell front anyway but ive been use to froyo and dont wana wait for months for release ... have been use to htc doing that as they drag their feets ...

ive already ordered a case from ebay and protective covers so i hope i wont suffer from teh screen crack issue however it does worry me
can you put my mind at ease

    Bonjour tout le monde,

I 've just received my Streak few days ago.Except few bugs(I own archos internet tablet and they usually come with a lots of bugs wivh have been resolved with updated firmware)

Problem with music and video resolved with real player beta (on the market) Perfect...and free

No problem with the screen very reactiv.the battery seems good

I'm waiting for andoid 2.2...I bought an unlock Streak in France .Waiting for good news even if the machine works well with 1.6

I bought from ZAGGS a full protective body (for me  they are the best)  and the case from DELL. I don't really understand how the glass can crack?

Drop the phone and you will soon understand :)

1.6 is better than the 2.1 but hey not everyone is a IT geek and is going to flash there streak back to 1.6 or Modacos 2.1 rom now are they? Tell that to all the poor sob's on 02 that got the 2.1 update .

You should buy 3rd party insurance to cover the Streak in case you do something crazy like carry it in your pocket and use it as a normal cell phone. Apparently normal use can break the screen and screen damage is not covered by the warranty.

After spending 6 days just getting a Dell streak ordered and another 3 days getting it fully activated, I had the Dell Streak for 6 days before I dropped it while at work.  1/4 of the screen shattered in spider-web cracks.  Contacted Dell to get it fixed.  It took 2 days to find someone who didn't think the device was a laptop.  This person said they didn't have service to cover the repairs and they didn't have replacement parts to fix it.  I now owned a paperweight--or a stylish coaster.

I was covered with the official AT&T insurance, so I called to get it replaced.  As the phone was so new, insurance couldn't replace it with the a Dell Streak, but offered to replace it with a Blackberry Torch.  After arguing that I wanted a Droid device, they provided a Samsung Captivate--for an additional $160.  I'm not sure what the use of the insurance is if I had to pay a replacement amount that anyone else has to pay to get the phone new.  I guess it covers AT&T for supplimenting the cost of the device with a 2 year contract.

The entire process has been a frustrating nightmare.  I'm angry with Dell for not supporting their phones, I'm angry with AT&T for not providing decent replacement insurance.

I really want to like the Streak.   The device is very useful, stylish, and  friendly to use.  However, my experience with Dell and AT&T will keep me from getting another Dell tablet/phone.  It's not worth the time, money, or high blood pressure for me.

I don't know if there is a case that is good enough to protect it from a drop, but if you do get a Streak, don't go without a case--a good thick rubber one.
