HiJackThis Log help, please!

Hi all.

I've got a laptop running WinXP that I'm having issues with.

I'll boot up the machine and certain programs won't work properly; for example, Internet Explorer will open, but will not display any web pages; it just keeps "thinking".

I'll try to open Network connections through the control panel, and it won't come up either; I just see the hourglass, as if it is working, but nothing happens.

I try to shut down the machine and it hangs on shutdown so I have to hold down the power button to get it to turn off.

When I boot it up again, it runs like a top: IE & the internet work fine, all programs open and close, etc, and it shuts down properly and on its own.

So far, the PC works every other time; I'll boot it up and it works great, then the next time I start it up it will have the problems I described above. I'll force a shutdown, and then it works perfectly upon next bootup.

I downloaded and ran the latest version of Spybot from download.com and it found about 12 issues, and also scanned with Norton (updated defs, of course) and Norton found nothing.

EDIT TO ADD: Looking through the log, I noticed several things: iTunes/iPod are installed on the PC, but never used anymore, so I can uninstall them if you think it would help. The Google toolbar is on there as well, and I'd like to remove it, especially if you think it would help. NetZero, both free and premium, were used on the PC until we recently got SBC DSL, so those can also be removed if you think it would help.
Thanks!

Below is my HiJackThis log. Please let me know if you need any more info in order to diagnose the problem.

Many thanks for your help!!!
