winfixer 2006?

Please tell me if it's still there - or is it some other bug?
My computer still seems to be slower and spyboot finds it (and destroys it?) now and again but I don't get any pop-ups from it any longer.

Here's my HJT log:

    download RegSeeker from:

    http://www.hoverdesk.net/dl/en/RegSeeker.zip

UnZip it ... it will create a folder a folder of its own (a RegSeeker folder) containing a bunch of files.

Restart your computer and boot into SAFE Mode...
if SAFE mode allows to you specify a user/login, then log-in with your usual login name.

Hopefully, you'll still be able to locate the RegSeeker folder in SAFE mode.
Go there, and open/run the RegSeeker program.
    Click-on  Find in Registry...
then place a check-mark in all of the HKEY options
and where it asks about search for , you should type in: NI.UWFX6_0001_N68M2301
[if you can, COPY this from here, and PASTE it into there]
    and click on SEARCH.
When it finishes, click-on Select ALL... which expands into a small menu from which you need to again choose Select ALL (you should notice some changes in color, as the items found are highlighted).
right click on the highlighted selections and choose Delete Selected Items.

Reboot into regular mode, generate another HJT log, and hopefully, it should be gone this time.   Please REPLY and post your this latest HJT log.

    ky331,

RegSeeker found one entry of what it was searching for - and deleted it. Here is my new HJT log. Hope it's OK now....

Looks like RegSeeker successfully removed the bad WinFixer command ... have you noticed any difference in terms of your WinFixer problem, and/or overall system speed/performance?  Are there any other problems you know of??

Next, i'm gonna help you with some minor touch-ups:

    close your internet browser

Run HiJackThis. click on DO A SYSTEM SCAN ONLY

Place a check-mark in the box in front of the lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about:blank

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CA356D79-679B-4b4c-8E49-5AF97014F4C1} - (no file)

Click on FIX CHECKED. Close HiJackThis. Reboot. And then generate/post another log, REPLYing to this thread.

At that point, I'm gonna try to ask someone else to step-in, to determine additional problems (if any) that you might have. Please be advised that we're very "understaffed" at the moment, so I can't make any guarantee as to when  the next helper will arrive.

    Good luck.

ky331, thank you so much for your help, the computer seems to be running ok now, (in the meantime I followed the advice in another thread in this forum and got a new version of java and adobe as well as the hosts thing from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm )

The problem is that I ran spybot just a minute ago - and it found winfixer 2005 again! What can I do to get rid of it for good?

Naturally I'd appreciate any other help I can get from you or your friends regarding my new HJT log:

the question now is precisely what "aspect" of WinFixer Spybot is finding... my assumption is that it's locating only a "tracking cookie".

[if SpyBot is reporting something other than a tracking cookie, please let us know.]

if it's simply a tracking cookie (that keeps coming back over and over):   use Spybot to delete that tracking cookie... and for the sake of what follows, let's suppose the tracking cookie in question has web address  winfixer.com (check to see what the actual address[es] is/[are])

in Internet Explorer, click on TOOLS
       INTERNET OPTIONS
       PRIVACY
SITES   (or EDIT - Web Sites)
    and then type-in and BLOCK all the 'bad' cookies you want to keep away (e.g., WinFixer.com );
    when done, click on OK

    ky331 you are great!

next spyboot scan didn't reveal any traces of winfixer - looks like we managed to get rid of the pest at last

    big thank you once again

One more problem: since I used HJT to fix the three lines you advised me to, when I reboot I get a message:

PCtel HSP Modem V.92 configuration. No PCtel Modem PV92Tray will be closed.

Is it connected with what I deleted? Should I now fix anything else?

And another thing - a new ZoneAlarm alert: iexplore.exe wants to accept connections from the Internet. Should I allow it to do so? I know I'm hopeless with computers - but working on it!:smileywink:

the three lines i had you remove (the "minor touch-ups") just "cleaned-up" entries that were trying to reference non-existent files [you'll note they were marked  (no file)  ], so they should have nothing to do with the message you're suddenly getting about a missing (or mis-configured) modem.

iexplore.exe should be your Internet Explorer... which, presumably, should have interacted with Zone Alarm long ago (the first time you accessed/used it)... so to have that message suddenly appear now also seems strange...

as indicated above, i've tried to call-in someone else to review the remainder of your log (as it contains several items i'm not familiar with).   Please wait for the next helper to arrive, fix things (if he deems it necessary), and then, see if you still get these "new" messages.

    Download the killbox:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it.

Shutdown and Restart and Boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
    maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option. Log in as your usual login or you won't find the programs you put on the desktop
and some of the entries may not appear we want to remove will not appear in HijackTHis.

Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check  then Fix Checked the following:

    O2 - BHO: GDIbho - {C68AE9C0-0909-4DDC-B661-C1AFB9F5AE54} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gdibho11.ocx
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Preview AdService] C:\Program Files\Preview AdService\PrevAdServ.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\3.bin\mwsoemon.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Pass] C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPassK.exe
    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://arcaonline.arcabit.com
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in Trusted Zone, should be Internet Zone
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'https' protocol is in Trusted Zone, should be Internet Zone
    O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/MediaAccessVerisign/ie/Bridge-c139.cab

    O16 - DPF: {3D8700FB-86A4-4CB4-B738-6F0FC016AC7D} (MainControl Class) - http://arcaonline.arcabit.com/ArcaOnline.cab
    O16 - DPF: {C68AE9C0-0909-4DDC-B661-C1AFB9F5AE54} (GDIbho) - http://domeny.do.of.pl/gdibho10.ocx

Run killbox.  Open Options and check Remove Directories
Where it says Full Path of File to Delete you need to type or copy (Hightlight and Ctrl + c)
and Paste (move to the killbox and place the cursor in the box and Ctrl + V):

    C:\Program Files\Preview AdService

Then check the Delete on Reboot box then the red button.
It will say:  File Will Be Removed On Reboot, Do you want to reboot Now.
Tell it NO.  (If it can't find it that's OK just go on to the next one)

    Repeat for:

    C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1

    C:\Program Files\Media Pass

Let it reboot after the last one.  Make a new log and post it as a reply.

    This line:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PV92TRAY] PV92Tray.exe

is probably causing the error you are getting.  Possibly AdAware ate its file.  You can check/Fix Checked  it too and that should stop the error.  I think it just creates an icon in the systray for your modem.  Don't think you need it but if you do you can uninstall and then reinstall the software that came with your modem.
