blank screen after DELL.COM screen

My mom doesn't know much about computers and I just moved away from home after she bought a brand new computer. I haven't even been gone a month and the only pages I know she goes to are freecell.com and bresnan.net. my sisters use myspace hotmail and yahoo. they've only DL'd aim and MSNmessenger. As far as i know they haven't gotten any questionable  emails. I don't know personally of any virus that does this but the internet wasn't working when my sister went on so she restarted and the dell screen came up and then a blank screen and then NOTHING.the system we have is a Dimension 1100/b110 Does anyone know anything about this problem?

    Before they get the www.dell.com screen there should be a different Dell screen, at that point get them to push the F8 Key on the keyboard a few times when they see that.  It will then bring them to a menu page asking them how they want to start up.
     
    Get them to select Safe mode.
     
    Once inside there they should go under the administrator account.  Once everything is loaded in there get them to go to...
    ...Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.
     
    This will let them choose when they would like to move their computer back to (date wise)
    Any files they may have downloaded will NOT be lost, however anything they may have recently installed between now and when they set it back to will.

    I've actually already had them try that, though i didnt remember what F button it was. I had them try it with all the F buttons except 2 and 12. It still just showed the dell screen and then blank.
