Dell Command Update 5.5.0 will not install (Resolved)

Hello all,

I work on all kinds of Dell's and I have recently encountered this one. The first thing I did for one was I ran Dell SupportAssist (DSA), and then let the web install all updates, I was then able to install Dell Command Update (DCU). The next one I got this one, same thing DCU did not install. So, I did the same ran DSA, let the site scan for updates. But this time, I installed one update at a time, and the latest update for TPM was at the top of the list.

I installed the latest TPM update, restarted and then after the restart DCU 5.5.0 installed and is working. So, apparently, DCU 5.5.0 requires the latest TPM installed.

So, we have still having issues with installing DCU & DSA. One day I was chatting with ChatGPT and I now have a PowerShell command that installs DCU and it has worked all but one time.

here is the command, run PowerShell as admin

winget install --id Dell.CommandUpdate -e --source winget

First this will install dotNET 8.0 then install DCU

@Rich Downey this worked smoothly for me, the only issue is that it downloaded ver 5.7.0 while 5.7.1 is available. Will have to wait a while I suppose :)

Something has definitely changed with the installation of Dell Update Command.   I've tried to install version 5.5 on 3 new freshly installed Windows 11 computers, and each time I get the "The wizard was interupted before Dell Command|Update could be completely installed" error.

I have to perform the updates thru the Dell support website now.

@Excalibur1701 At first I thought it was the TPM update, but that only showed up once, then I was installing all the updates using Dell SupportAssist via the web site. NOW! I start the install for DCU, I want 1.5 to 2 minutes, then I go into Task Manager and KILL the installer process. and DCU works fine.

Yes, dell broke DCU and I hope they do a fix, OR! if an update to TPM or some other driver is required, they should issue a statement.

    Hi!

Today I have encountered this issue while I was preparing a Dell Precision workstation at work. Finally, making some searches and tests on the computer I have found out that Dell Command Update 5.5 requires ".Net Desktop Runtime 8" to be installed previously on the system.

You can download the installer from the following URL:

Download .NET 8.0 (Linux, macOS, and Windows)

(Maybe installing just ".NET Runtime 8" instead of ".Net Desktop Runtime 8" is enough, I haven´t tested it yet.)

I hope it helps more people with the same trouble.

    Regards!

Have been having the same issue on new Dell systems that are being re-imaged prior to deployement.

    Taking Amuro_Ray's suggestion was successful.

Install failed, added .NET Runtime (not Desktop version) 8.0 and then immediately began the installation again, and that was successful.

    Thanks for the tip!

@Amuro_Ray. Tried this ONCE and it worked, tried it again  and failed

Getting kind of tired of this!

    @Rich Downey
Ran Dell SupportAssist (DSA), updates did not include the TPM but after the restart the Dell Update Command successfully installed.

    Very odd.
