Dell System Software not installing

I have a refurb'ed XPS 730 H2C that came with Vista factory installed and have had nothing but problems with it crashing for no good apparent reason.  I've updated BIOS, drivers, etc. and still same issues.  I decided to rebuild it with XP just to see how / if it worked any better... Nope.  After installing XP, I tried to install the DSS software as per Dell's instructions but can find no trace of it even though it appears to go through the motions of installing, including asking me to reboot.  Once I reboot, checking the start menu and Add/Remove shows no trace of the application.  I've even tried installing it in safe mode to no avail.  Is this normal or should I see some kind of indication that the DSS exists under Add/Remove?

Aside from the Dell_Desktop_System-Software_A11_R176236.exe, there are a number ESA utilities and it's unclear if there is any particular order that they are supposed to be installed in... Do these items need to be installed before the DSS will work?  What order should the utilities be installed in?  Also should they each be installed prior to the chipset drivers?

Here's what I find under the XP system drivers System Utilities:

1.)  Dell Desktop System Software (A11 R176236)

2.) Dell ESA Performance (A04 R192445)

3.) Dell ESA Performance Monitor (A03 R192443)

4.) Dell System Utilities ESA (A01 R182468)

5.) Dell System Utilities ESA (A03 R200981)

Thanks for your help in advance,

Mike

Desktop System Software is not listed in Add remove programs and you will not see any evidence that it has installed. It is a "behind the scenes" program that enables the other drivers to install properly. This article might help.

    Hi Mary-

Thanks for the prompt reply and info.  What about the ESA utilities I mentioned in the original post.  Do they all need to be installed and is there a particular order to installing them?

    Thanks again
