Digital cable box

I have digital cable in my house and currently cannot figure out how or if I can set up my digital cable box to work with WMCE. I havent tried setting it up yet my my problem is that I dont believe I will be able to use Media Center to change the channel or set up recording because as of now with my TV I have to use the remote that came witht he cable box.

Can anyone else who also has digital cable help me out? Its not a big problem but I would like to record TV shows off my digital channels.

Your MCE machine should have come with a set of IR Blasters.  One end of the IR Blasters connects to the back of your MCE computer, the other end of the IR blasters usually has some sort of adhesive back.  You attach the adhesive back near the IR sensor of the digital cable box. Now go through TV signal set up in MCE, and let it know that you are susing a cable set top box.
The way this all works, is that the IR Sensor that you have already attached to your MCE PC (that's the sensor that currently responds to the MCE remote) gets the IR signal from the MCE remote, THE MCE computer takes those signal, knows that you have a cable set top box. it then send outs an corresponding appropriate/translated IR signal via those IR blasters you attached to the cable box, and voila the cable box changes channels, turns on etc. just as if you were using the cable remote.

    Hi:

I understand your instructions on how to get the MCE remote to control the digital box, as far as changing
channels etc. I don't quite understand how to feed the digital signal through MCE so as to be able to record
    digital TV.

Currently I have an S-video cable from the digital box feed directly into my W2600 LCD TV. Obviously this
bypasses my Emuzed Angel PCI TV tuner card, and all the MCE functions, but it does provide the best
quality TV picture. I don't have a PVR, and I can't record signals via this feed.

I currently have the basic coax cable feed directly into my TV tuner card. This cable TV signal I can
record via MCE, but the quality of the picture is not as good as that from the digital box.

My digital box is a Pace DC50 1P. It has both a coax-out terminal (labelled "to TV") and an S-video out
terminal (currently connected directly to the LCD TV.)
My TV tuner card has both S-video in, and coax-in terminals.

My question is, does it matter whether I connect my digital box to my TV card via a coax or an S-video cable?
My PC connects to the W2600 via the DVI cable. I use the W2600 as both a TV and as a monitor.

In general the quality of connections from lowest to highest is coax, RCA (often called composite), then S-Video, then component, then DVI/HDMI.  In your case I would look to get a S-Video splitter (instead of calling it a splitter, sometimes its called a Y-Cable). A Best Buy, Circuit City or Home Depot or similar type stores should have one. Cost should be $10-$20.

If its not already clear why its called a Y-cable, you take the part of the cable that looks like the lower part of the letter "Y" and connect to your digital cable box, then one arm of the Y connects to your LCD TV and the other arm of the Y to your tuner card. All connections are via S-video.

It might not fix your quality issues however, sometimes the difference in picture quality is a reflection of the quality of the NTSC tuner and some PC TV cards are not that great. I'm not familiar with your TV tuner card so I don't know if that's part of the problem or not. Other times the card can work great given a strong enough signal and the answer is a cable amplifier.  Let's hope in this case the splitter does the trick and no further work is needed.
