Hi. I had a problem with XP and had to do a XP repair using the Windows XP Home installation CD Rom (rather than use the PC restore facility ALT+F11 because I did not want to wipe the drive).
I have everything working as I should on the PC except for two programs. The one that allows you to watch DVD films from the Combo drive and the CD Burning Software.
The Drive supplied with the system is a combo DVD ROM & CDRW drive.
The message I am getting when I click on the Icons is to re-install the software but I haven't got the original CD's from dell (the programs were pre-installed) and I don't want to use the ALT+11 PC Restore and the XP system restore wont work (no restore point) and even if it did I wouldn't want to use it.
So am I stuffed now? - anywhere from the hard drive I can re-install the DVD player and burner software or download it from Dell's website anywhere?
I believe the programs you are referring to are available from Dell but you will have to call e-mail or chat to obtain them (They should be free of charge)
Explain your situation and the Dell representative will issue whatever CDs (Dell Media Experience, Power DVD, Sonic MyDVD, Windows operating system) you might need.
Thanks. What a fantastic service is that 'chat with Dell'
I tried it yesterday and chatted to a very polite and helpful technician (Anand Kamath) and he is going to post out the programs on CD to me free of charge. You cant better that.
Its the first time I have used that chat service and I found it very good. I got through to the representative quickly and the whole process from start to finish was just over 5 minutes.
