Getting error message everytime closing a program

I have tried everything I know to do about this problem. (which I'll admit is NOT much) The error message says:
Internet Explorer has a problem and will shut down: I click on message and get: AppName:iexplore.exe.
AppVer:6.0.2900.2180   ModName:shdocvw.dll  ModVer: 6.0.2900.2987  Off Set:00018d53  I have a Dell Dimension 3000.  File System: NTFS  I downloaded the spybot and ran it, but am still getting same message everytime.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you. Sharon

    Maybe a corrupt .dll.

Try running sfc / scannow to fix or replace corrupt files on your system. You will need the XP cd to do this.

More information on running sfc command.

If sfc doesn't fix it, open the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Click Add/Remove Windows Components button along the left edge of the screen. Uncheck IE. Confirm the uninstall and return to desktop. Reboot. Go back to the same place and check IE again. It may ask for your XP CD. Reboot when it's done.

You may need to go to the MS update site and allow it to scan your system to see if all the required IE updates are still there or need to be reinstalled.
