I hope that's enough information for any one who might be able to help me. My trouble is with a program I'm running called FlightGear. It's flight simulation freeware and, I might add, it's pretty darn good, but I'm having a problem with an OpenGL error. The base program comes preloaded, I'll say, with scenery and aircraft and a person has the ability to download both from the FlightGear web site, which I have not done. All I have is what I downloaded from the web. I have a disc as well and have run into the same problem. Out of the 14 aircraft offered only 2 will work. With the other12 I get this....."Warning: detected OpenGL error ' invalid value' at after RenderBin : : draw( . . ) That's it verbatim. I've gone to the FlightGear web page and according to an answer forum, it's unanswerable, unless I just read it wrong. My guess is that the chipset just can't handle it. Can I do something with this particular computer to remedy the problem or will I have to upgrade to a better computer? I just don't understand why this is happening, I can use a Dehavillin float plane and a Seneca 200t twin engine but not a dang glider or WWII biplane which, to me anyway, is a lot less complicated. But I far from an expert when it comes to computing. I'd have to say I'm at the beginning of the novice stage. There is just so much to understand and I'm really not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but in the same breath I'm not the dullest by far. I would sue appreciate any help I could get, in the mean time I'll fly with what I have and be happy and maybe learn a thing of two about to navigation and the use of the instruments that help with that sort of thing. Thanks. Chris
Hello again Robin, I don't think I mentioned that the model of computer I have is a laptop, if that makes any difference, which I'm guessing it does, I think that's it for now. I sure hope you can help, or someone.
Hi Chris, Chances are, you don't have a graphics card for your laptop, and your graphics are coming off a chip on your motherboard. With that in mind, you won't be able to handle any game's that require a lot off graphics. Some of the more dear models of laptop's, do carry a graphics card, where the bottom end don't, and the bottom end laptop's are not upgradeable on their graphics.
Hello Robin, I want to thank you for taking the time to get back to me, I really do appreciate it, even though it wasn't what I wanted to hear. LOL. Oh well, I guess I'll have to save my pennies so some day I'll be able to get a better system. This is my first computer that I got through Clearing House Sweepstakes, they sent me a voucher for 400 bucks and I just had to come up with the rest, which wasn't all that much, so I said, what the hell. I tell ya though, I've got a lot to learn about this thing and the way they work with all the codes this and that. It gets quite confusing at times. That's when I shut it off and take a break. Again, thank you for the information. I'll stick it in my memory bank and hope it sticks. Yours truly, Chris-M-L
Hi Chris, Can you tell us what graphics card you have. What it is, some of these flight simulators require you to have a middle to high end card, and some of the latest require a duel core CPU.
Hello Robin, I looked up "how to " on the web and found the answer was the same on two different pages, According to the information I read, I ran "dxdiag" in the run section of the help menu and found that the device is called.....Mobile Intel(R) 915gGM/GMS, 910GML Express.....that's exactly the way it's written, so as far as I know that's what it is. I don't know one way or another if that's true, so there ya have it,.....signed... baffled in WI. Do you think that's right? AS I said I don't know. Thanks for any help you can render, have a great day! Chris.
Well, that is a good question. I thought the chipset thing was it, that shows you just how novice I am at this. I really don't know how to go about finding it. Please forgive my ignorance, I had a time just finding the chipset info.. Up until 5 months or so ago I'd never even so much as turned on a computer. I've crashed and started over 3 or 4 time now and I've certainly discovered which buttons NOT to push. I'm learning something every day and would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me. I also want to thank you answering my queries, it's very much appreciated. Yours truly, Chris-M-L
