im having the problems with word documents, upon 'opening' them i get the choise of "use the web service to select the correst programme" or "select a programme from a list of installed programmes".

It would be helpful to know what kind of documents you're talking about - Word documents, Excel Documents, Paint Shop documents...........etc.??? Also, what do you mean by "impossible to open" ? Do you get any error messages??? A little more information please.

Do you have Microsoft Office (specifically Microsoft Word) installed on the new machine?

Then use the option to "select a programme from a list of installed programmes". At present, it appears that Word is not set as the default program to open .doc files. You can also set the defaults from Start>Default Programs.
