If I order a new I6000 from Dell with just a DVD player and no CDRW or DVDRW drive, how do I reformat/reinstall XP without the OS CD? Or does Dell ship XP cd when one doesnt order a cdrw?
They should have a option "with media" (that is an extra cost option). If you choose that option, I've been told you will get the recovery CD's. But, doublecheck with a salesperson to make sure.
However, with the cost of a burner drive VS a DVD ROM drive, it's probably a non-issue. At some point you are going to want to back up user data and you will need a CD/DVD drive.

Well even if you dont have a optical drive (DVD, CD, CDR, CDRW...) you dont need CD's on the systems that Dell ships now. It has a utility called PC Restore. You will be able to restore a new image of the OS on your computer in less than an hour including the drivers.
It's still a good idea to create your WinXP OS install CD. If the hard drive ever goes bad, at least you can buy a new hard drive and install the operating system.
